Springtime means warmer weather, a happier feeling and the desire to get out this weekend and tackle that To-Do List!
So.... you need to pressure wash that old dirty deck, or the privacy fence needs cleaned before you can restain it. And the concrete drive is darkened from dirt, grime and mildew. Where do you start? Many home owners run out to a big box store and pick up a 3500+ PSI 2.5 gallon per minute pressure washer. Sounds easy! Well it can be.... but usually not the case. The wrong size tip, not enough water and too much PSI will damage the surface you intended to clean. Leaving behind undesired "zig-zag" patterns or worse. (Maybe the wife won't mind a little added "Art" to the fence?..... Well on second thought!"
Ok, quick google search and hire someone who offers pressure washing.... well you may get exactly the same results unfortunately.
Whether you tend tend to tackle this on your own or hire it out research is needed. Understanding the proper amount of water and whether or not high pressure and hot water (needed for concrete), low pressure and cold water (needed for wood and exterior house washing) is valuable information. Then you'll know what you need to do to safely perform the task of pressure washing around your home. You will also know whether or not the person or company your looking at hiring actually knows what they are doing.
Be careful out there my friends! :)
Each pass I make with my lawn mower the more distant our long winter fades away. So is life, always rushing to the next season to get things done. Each decision we make today, this week, this year gets us one step closer to another list of things to get done. Does it matter? Yes it does!
Speaking of decisions, what about your company building? Are those windows cleaned yet? Does it matter who you hire? Yes, yes it does!
We recently were asked to help get the windows cleaned at a large retirement complex. They have used other companies in the past and were not happy with how long it took them and thus how long their own employees were needed to accompany them to each room. You see, the problem was that the window cleaning contractor couldn't safely clean these windows from the ground and took over 4 weeks to accomplish the job.
Why were we at Advantage Window Cleaning in Salina, Kansas asked to assist? Does it matter?
It did to this company, safely cleaned the complex in a matter of days, not weeks.
What about your building? Does it matter who cleans your windows? Yes, it does.

So, summer came and quickly dissapeared into fall. Fall seemed to jump right into winter... what happened!?
Did the gutters get cleaned yet? Just not enough time in the weekend to get things done any more. Not really worth a fall off a ladder either!
Why You Should Be Concerned With Clean Guttering and Downspouts
Put simply, smart home maintenance. If guttering and downspouts are not cleaned of debri you are risking damage to your guttering. "How could NOT cleaning my gutters damage them?" If the water is restricted from the proper flow it will freeze when it gets cold enough. The problem with that is the aluminim or steel guttering is fabricated from contracts in the cold and expands in the heat. So winter can wreack havock on guttering with water trapped in it, especially here in Kansas. The water will seek the path of least resistance. If you have a slightly leaking corner, the water will get in those little areas and when it freezes and expands will make the leak even worse.
What we find in our customers guttering... Well, earlier this fall we removed 80lbs of debri and 4 deceased birds from a customers guttering. Typically we dont find quite that much, but 20-50 lbs of debri is common. Yes, it is a good idea to get your guttering cleaned before our heavy winter hits. Give us a call today, Advantage Window Cleaning is the best choice in gutter cleaning!

A professional at work
Why hire a professional service when your own employees can do it?
This question has been asked by many small and large businesses alike. I mean, come on, you're already paying half their taxes, liability insurance, work comp etc. Right? How hard can it be to spray some blue colored water on some windows and wipe it down?
Consider the reason why you have people work for you. Are employees only for menial tasks nobody really wants to do? Or to make your business or firm run more effectively so as to increase your bottom line, all the while providing jobs to others in the community?
Is every task that can be handed down to an employee going to save you money?
Let's be honest with ourselves here, OK? Because we both know the answer. Water pipe breaks at the restaurant you own, who fixes it? An employee? More than likely you call a plumber. Why? It will cost more per hour, right? We know that the professional may seem to cost more but his experience and speed to accomplish what we need is worth it.
Not to mention the hourly employee would take far longer and likely cost you more money compared to them doing the job they were hired to do.
Hiring a professional window cleaning service is to YOUR benefit. Instead of looking at a bid price on window cleaning like "How much will this cost me?", consider how much does it REALLY cost you to have an employee do the same job. But remember, like the plumber scenario, it will not be the same service. Unlike the hourly employee you have trained for a whole different job (the job that makes you money when it is getting done), the professional window cleaner will be efficient and careful to give you the complete service you are paying for. And while the windows are being cleaned, your employees can be put to better use.
So, while hiring a professional window cleaning service or not is completely up to you, just remember to count the entire cost if you have employees doing that task now. You may find it more economical to hire it out.
There are many websites supposedly created to make your life easier when looking for a contractor. Feel free to investigate the company your thinking of inviting into your home. In fact, I encourage you to.
Word of Caution: Be careful! Some of these sites may not be helpful at all. Some operate by recommending companies that pay for the service. So be careful.
What about our main question? How can YOU find a good local window cleaner?
We currently teamed up with WINDOW CLEANING CONNECT.COM, because finding a local, respected window cleaner in the past has been very difficult for many. I wish I counted how many times a client said, "How long have you been in business?" My answer always seems to surprise people (11 years). Why? Because less and less people use the paper phone book anymore. They look to reviews found on line. Because of this reality, we too can be found on line and reviews for future clients posted will no doubt be helpful.
So, whether looking to see how we or our competitors treat clients I encourage you to do your research ahead of time. Just like most purchases in life, it doesn't always come down to the bottom dollar.
Have a great day!
Here is Chris, one of our happy staff members working hard in the cold yesterday. "It wasn't bad." Said Chris, referring to the cold. Today we had a windchill of 5 degrees in the morning, which was much colder. However we pride ourselves in working year round but we are also safely prepared to do so.
Homeowner Tip of the Week-
If you plan on cleaning your own windows this winter in preparation of the in laws coming over, remember to be safe. Only get on ladders if firmly set level on the ground and properly spaced from the house. Many homeowners experience dangerous falls this time of year, so please be safe!
Remember- Its much cheaper to pay for a professional than a ER visit and or time off work to heal.
Have a great day!
July 12, 2012
Off to Denver Colorado to receive a full day of training at a window cleaning business seminar to be held in Castle Rock on Friday.
Friday, July 13.
After a nice breakfast with personal friends, who also own window cleaning businesses across the state of KS and a buddy from WA, we are off to RHG headquarters.
We arrive and are warmly welcomed by fellow business owners from around the united states, even one of the key speakers from Canada, Kevin Dubrosky. We learned a lot from the well put together seminars, including marketing and OSHA requirements specific to our industry.
Many thanks to Shawn Gavin, owner of RHG for such an awesome day!
I am already putting some things learned in place to benefit our employees and customers.
Have a great day!
